3 killed, 3 injured in Israeli attacks in S. Lebanon

BEIRUT, July 13 (Xinhua) — Two Hezbollah members and a civilian were killed and three others wounded on Saturday in Israeli attacks targeting several areas in the border region of southern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.

The sources, who spoke anonymously, said an Israeli drone fired two air-to-surface missiles at a car parked on the road connecting the town of Marjayoun to the city of Nabatieh, resulting in the deaths of Najib Halawi, a Hezbollah member, and Mousa Suleiman, a Lebanese civilian.

In another separate incident, an Israeli drone fired two air-to-surface missiles at a motorcycle on the northern edge of Al-Mari village, killing a Hezbollah member named Mahdi Mohammad Khair al-Din from the city of Hermel in eastern Lebanon, said the sources, noting that the Israeli military carried out five air strikes on four border towns and villages with drones and warplanes, and bombed nine border towns and villages with more than 30 shells.

Meanwhile, Lebanese Resistance Brigades, a Lebanese paramilitary group affiliated with Hezbollah, declared their participation in the battles against Israel in support of the Palestinian people.

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas’ attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.
