VIENTIANE, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) — The weather bureau of Laos has warned people across the country to stay alert to the possibility of landslides, flooding and strong winds, as tropical storm Yagi is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms to Laos from Sept. 3 to 10.
Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong wind gusts are likely in northern Laos’ Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Oudomxay, Luang Prabang and Xayaboury provinces, according to a report issued on Tuesday by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
The central parts of Laos can also expect occasional thunderstorms, heavy rain and wind gusts.
In the south, there will be thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in some areas. Plateau areas can also expect thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds.
Lao capital Vientiane will also have heavy rain, the Lao weather bureau has warned.
In August, some 60 households in Bolikhamxay province suffered flooding after the Mekong River burst its banks. Some parts of Xayaboury province were also inundated, affecting more than 1,600 households, as well as farmland and livestock.
