BẮC KẠN — A landslide occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning in the northern mountainous province of Bắc Kạn, killing four of five members of the same family.
At the time of the landslide in Khuổi Ún Hamlet, Nghiên Loan Commune of Pác Nặm District, there were five people in the house, four including a tiny baby were buried, and only one managed to escape.
According to Bắc Kạn Province’s Office of the Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, overnight and into the early hours of June 17 and June 18, there were widespread showers and thunderstorms in the province.
Regional rainfall measurements from 8pm on Monday to 06.30am on Tuesday ranged from 5mm to 90mm in different localities.
Rescue forces later found the bodies of Nông Căn Chạ, 41, Hoàng Thị Thía, 43, Ngô Thị Mây,18, who is daughter-in-law of Chạ and Thía and Mây’s young child.
Local authorities and the leaders of the provincial Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue Committee promptly went to the scene to help the rescue effort and to assist the victims’ families. — VNS
