FREETOWN – A total of 15 people have been killed after a seven-story building collapsed in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, the National Disaster Management Agency of Sierra Leone confirmed late Thursday.
The accident, which occurred on Monday, left dozens of residents buried under the rubble, according to eyewitnesses.
The agency said that eight survivors have been found as of Thursday, while 15 people have lost their lives.
The management agency added that rescue teams have made significant progress in clearing the rubble while working downwards to reach the floors where more residents are believed to be trapped.
Investigation into the cause of the accident is still underway.
